I had the pleasure of working as an intern for the Ann St. Art Gallery, during the summer of 2011. As an art major at SUNY Old Westbury, I was excited to get an understanding of the workings of a gallery. It was an eye opening look into not only the happenings of an art gallery but also to the art world. Mrs. Virginia Walsh was great at instructing me on virtually all aspects of duties required to run a gallery from all different tasks of organizing files, sending out mailings, assisting with gallery show preparations, assisting with hanging the artwork, and a number of other things. One of my favorite things about this internship was the interaction with other working artist. The art world is a small world, and one of the biggest issues with aspiring artist is who you know. It was great to have the ability to network with some great artist. I would recommend an internship at the Ann St. art gallery to anyone remotely interested in the art world; it gives you a sample of the many aspects of what it is to operate a gallery, and a taste of being an artist showing.
